Litigation is the process of resolving a dispute between two or more persons or entities in a court of law. Litigation begins when a party decides to make a claim against another and ends when the matter has been decided by a judge/adjudicator or has been settled by the parties. 

The litigation process is governed by rules, procedures, practice directions, and professional guidelines. It can be a very intimidating process for parties and/or self-represented litigants.
